WANTcast: The Women Against Negative Talk Podcast

Welcome to the WANTcast: The Women Against Talk Podcast — lessons in moving forward fearlessly and spreading the (good) word. In each episode, writer, speaker, coach and WANT founder Katie Horwitch unpacks tips, tools, motivation and inspiration to help you shift your self-talk: the internal narrative you have on loop 24/7 that tells you who you are and who you should be. Dive into topics such as confidence, fear, trust, body image, self-doubt, self-worth, relationships, career, friendships, social issues, and more - and walk away from each episode with actionable steps to shift your narrative from reactive to proactive (as well as inspiration to keep going when the going gets tough). You can't change the world until you change YOUR world, first - and shifting your self-talk is where it all begins. The goal isn't to change who you are - it's to BECOME who you know you're meant to be. New episodes every other Tuesday. Get the show notes + more at womenagainstnegativetalk.com

This back-from-unexpected-hiatus (...I'll explain in the first 5 minutes) episode is JAM-PACKED with goodness right from the very start. From mental health and getting a diagnosis as an adult to "intuitive business" and the realities of making money to the way we live our lives online and how to be many things at once.

I'm so thrilled to be able to introduce you to MICHELLE PELLIZZON, founder (and Head Witch In Charge) of Holisticism. Holisticism is a platform, and media company that helps make well-being practices more accessible to the masses by helping wellness practitioners run profitable, community-oriented businesses. Michelle also hosts The Twelfth House Podcast, one of my favorite podcasts, shedding light on the unseen aspects of wellness, intuitive business, and spirituality.

Building confidence or "being more confident" is high on a lot of people's to-do list...so why is it so hard to actually DO the damn thing?

In this episode, we break down what confidence is and isn't, why "fake it 'till you make it" might or might not work for you, and tangible ways to keep yourself accountable on your journey toward "more" confidence...whatever that looks like for YOU.

One of the worst pieces advice I ever received actually led me to some of the best revelations about what I do and who I am.

In this episode, we talk about how you define yourself to others — and yourself — and why it's an essential part of building self-confidence, self-trust, and proactive patterns. Plus, how to rethink and rework your self-definition on your own.

The other day, I asked you what self-talk you’d help shifting. And the word ENOUGH appeared at least 15xs: not SMART enough, not COOL enough, not STRONG enough, not SUCCESSFUL enough...

...apparently, a whole lot of us are walking around telling ourselves “I’m not enough” in some way, shape or form.

Here’s a guide to start to break down (and build up!) your “enoughness.”

Brené Brown talks about "the people in the stands." Glennon Doyle talks about not "hiding your fire." How much not-caring is enough, and how much is TOO much?

In this episode, we talk about how to hold both Brené and Glennon's words as truth at the same time if you've got fear of judgement, self-doubt, and a desire to not let other people's opinions get under your skin...

...and also don't want to be a jerk to the people you love.

This is an extra special episode, because it’s a conversation with one of the most extra-special people in my life: mobility expert, personal trainer, yoga teacher, dancer, and one of my dearest friends in the universe, Nicole Sciacca.

Nicole is a WEALTH of information on any and all things having to do with how your body moves - and prides herself on nurturing her client’s sense of self while optimizing their performance, potential, and personal recovery. She’s also a rockstar mother, a former fitness studio owner, a meditation teacher (and devotee), a trainer to A-list celebrities, an eternal optimist, and basically the most loyal friend you’ll ever have.

In this episode we talk about Nicole’s philosophy on doing and being many things in your lifetime (and what that can actually look like), the phrase that helped her navigate the darkest moments of her personal and professional life, how an unexpected instance involving one of her most famous clients led her to instant Instagram celebrity status literally overnight (and how she navigated that), how to rethink movement as your body ages, and WAY more.

Join us this Sunday June 27th at 3:00pm Eastern Time for Nothing But a Number - A Movement + Self Talk workshop to reimagine your relationship with age. In this free 90 minute workshop, you'll dissect your relationship with age and "aging" no matter how old you are. Half intentional movement focused on longevity and joint health, half mindful discussion, walk away with practical tools to help you age powerfully in body and spirit.

If you're feeling particularly...um...tested lately (by people, by work, by life being life), welcome to the club. Because you, along with pretty much everyone else, are in the middle of a transition. And moving forward might feel so hard — or annoying — that you feel like maybe it's not worth the energy to even try.

In this solo episode, we're diving into how to move forward when it's really tempting not to (and why those temptations feel so freaking tempting. I hear you!)...and how to use what's commonly seen as a "negative" feeling to your full advantage.

You're not the same as you were one year ago. And you shouldn’t be.

But maybe you're struggling right now as things start to look eerily similar to how they "Once Were," and feeling the pressure of needing to replicate the UN-USEFUL parts of pre-2020 times in order to be successful, loved, or just get through the day (even though you've seen that the Once Were ways weren't working).

In this episode, I'm sharing my thoughts around what I call "reopening anxiety," and some things you can do this week to calm that part of your mind that feels like all the important lessons you learned over the last year are at the risk of being forgotten.

WANTcast listener favorite Jessica Murnane is back this week — and this time, we're talking all about figuring out what "normal" and "best" mean for you...when what you're feeling is anything BUT those things.

(We're also laughing a lot, because Jessica brings SO much joy to the WANTcast.)

Her new book, Know Your Endo: An Empowering Guide To Health and Hope with Endometriosis, isn't only for people with endo – but for people who think they could possibly have endo, for people who love people who have/could have endo, or people who are questioning if the “normal” they experience is the same “normal” they hear everyone else talking about. It is a revelation, a revolution, and a treasure trove of both stories and strategies to help you build your confidence AND your toolkit.

After almost six years and 124 episodes, I realized I'd never done what many people do right at the start of their podcasts...shared my story. But as I'm evolving, WANT is evolving, and the world is evolving, maybe now is actually the perfect time for a (re)introduction. If anything, so that maybe you can recognize a little of yourself in these words, and know you're not alone.

When business coach Harper Spero was diagnosed with an extremely rare immunodeficiency disorder known as Job’s syndrome, she was determined to create her own narrative. She believes that battling an invisible illness should not define you.

Not only has Harper learned to embrace her invisible illness, but she has carved a new path and given hope to many who feel equally veiled. Harper couldn’t find podcasts featuring stories of people similar to her. In 2018, Harper launched the podcast Made Visible to help people with invisible illnesses (and those who care for them) feel more seen and heard. In 2020, she launched the Made Visible Writing Class to help others write and share their stories of invisible illness.

In this episode we talk about what it's like to live with an invisible illness, and what that means during the times of pandemic. We also talk about access and privilege when it comes to getting help, the countless benefits of learning about stories that look different than your own, how to feel — and make OTHERS feel — seen, and so much more.

A healthy human, in relationship with herself OR with others, is meant to have balance when it comes to what and who gets our attention. We're not MEANT to be 100% self-focused or 100% other-focused constantly - we need to be both.

In this episode, we're diving into why you need a mix of "self care" and "others care," and what to do to help yourself even the balance when it feels like you've gone too far in one direction or the other.

After recovering from a ten-year-long battle with various eating disorders, Johanna Kandel founded The Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness. Since its inception in 2000, The Alliance has brought information and awareness about eating disorders to more than 340,000 individuals nationally and internationally. In addition, Johanna runs free weekly support groups, mentors individuals with eating disorders and their families, and helps thousands of people gain information and find the help they need. She's also the author of Life Beyond Your Eating Disorder (Harlequin). As a passionate advocate for mental health and eating disorders legislation, Johanna has spent a lot of time meeting with numerous members of Congress, and was part of the first-ever Eating Disorder Roundtable at the White House.

In this episode, Johanna and I candidly discuss how to move forward proactively in your life if you're struggling with an eating disorder, how you can effectively show up for others as someone who KNOWS someone with an eating disorder, and so much more.
